MAKING SENSE OF THE
ANCIENT GREEKS
IN THE 21ST CENTURY
International
conference
May 22-23, 2023
Novosibirsk Akademgorodok
Format: mixed (in person and on-line)
The subject
matter of this conference is focused on a combined engagement
between modern philosophy and Greek philosophy. Participants are
encouraged to present a reading of Greek philosophers
concurrently with the ideas of modern philosophy that have
shaped the 21st Century. In terms of Greek philosophy,
participants are free to work with thinkers beginning with
Thales of Miletus onwards to Proclus of the fifth Century AD.
For modern philosophy, thinkers of the Enlightenment up to the
present qualify. Regardless of choice, the presentation should
remain focused on the relevance of the study for the 21st
Century. The conference has no restrictions regarding a
particular discipline, whether analytic, contemporary or
otherwise.

The Roots of European Intellectual Tradition
International
conference
December 8-10, 2022
Novosibirsk State University, Akademgorodok
Program
The wealth of thought of early Greek
philosophers is striking in its diversity and comprehensiveness.
They were true discoverers and pioneers in different fields of
knowledge, whose intellectual influence can be clearly seen in
the work of many later thinkers. Their biographies and ideas
have inspired writers, poets, and artists for centuries and
continue to occupy the minds of contemporary scholars. The
fragmentary nature of their writings becomes a real challenge to
philologists, philosophers and historians of Antiquity, and
constantly inspires the search for answers to difficult puzzles.
Their bold ideas are still echoed in contemporary discourse on
the most complex questions of world order, ethics, and religion.
All this convinces us of the need to establish a national
society for the study of the legacy of the eminent pre-Socratic
philosophers, and to hold regular conferences devoted to the
discussion of their immortal ideas.
